Digital Visions

By Russell Colton

“Pushing the artistic envelope further then you ever thought possible!

-As an artist.”

I have spent well over 15 years on perfecting the various techniques that I use to create this digital journey! It’s been a fun trip!

My technique is the reverse of conventional perceptions. The artistic process of my most recent  pieces; are  the manipulations that are done after the photographic process. This allows me to express both colors and perception within a frame. I incorporate a variety of techniques in my creative process including photography, fine arts painting techniques and decorative faux painting techniques.

Contemporary, warm, timeless, neo-trendy, minimalist and adaptable.  This is an implosion of textural sculpture reborn into 2D art.  The overuse of colors creates a subtle design, where the differences between the layers are evident. In any single piece as many as ninety-nine layers can be incorporated.  Using under-paintings, duplications, exclusion as well as many special effects, filters, color-shifting, just to name a few.  Pop art for the new millennium. Rich and diverse this art has the appeal of, “this can be in my home”.

-Description by Collection

Bizarre Weaves series is where all of the depth and dimensional fabrics are held in an abstract virtual mill.  I want the viewer to feel the grain, see the pattern and to appreciate every fiber as though it had been woven.  There are patterns with-in patterns and the depth-is infinite.

Organized Organics, and Orbs series.  Within, are the sheer simplicity of form.  The balance that a truly organic structure has is its beauty. As with all the pieces in the collection, looking beyond the shell is required.

Metals series, Feeling the cold chrome, the warm metallic golden hues on another. In my metals collection, metallic and non-metallic forms have definable energy patterns, both positive and negative energies. Allowing yourself to be liquefied by this series is a prerequisite for continuing onward.

Naturalist / The Impressionists Series.   This collection requires close proximity to fully appreciate the depth and complex of the detail, not immediately noticeable from a distance. While this collection has all of the richness and depth of color created on a two-dimensional surface. This is the ultimate goal of any artist to achieve, the rendering of the masters.  It’s a natural progression to go from the feel of rich oils or acrylics and showcase that alluring sense of the eighteen-century artist in a digital format today!

Animated Works Series is the latest journey

I wanted to capture glimpses of the creative process frame by frame in order for the viewer to see what I saw while creating them.
